Why did I choose the name WellFitMommy?

When I started this blog five years ago, I struggled with a good name. I knew I wanted to write a blog that encompassed wellness, fitness guides, and motherhood. I knew I wanted to have the word mom in my blog name. Obviously because I am a mom, but also because this blog is for moms.

This blog is for any mom who wants to learn to eat and feed her family healthfully, find time for fitness in her busy life, and most importantly balance those things with fun, and living!

There is no one size fits all fitness and nutrition plan because we are all individuals. We have different interests (some love running, some hate it. Some love brussels sprouts, some gag off them).

We need to find an exercise, eating, and stress management plan that is well fit for us (see what I did there?) so we stay motivated and most of all we stay HAPPY.

So I found my name

If I could make one mom woe disappear for all fellow moms it would be the stress we face in wondering if we are doing everything right. It would be getting rid of the guilt we have in our newfound parenthood. I won’t even go into detail here because if you are a mom, I know you know what I am talking about.

I want you to know you are doing a kick ass job. The fact that you are reading this means you want to be the best mom you can be while balancing time for your relationships and yourself.

The Mom Struggle Is Real

I will let you in a little secret – we are all struggling with something (if you aren’t you are inhuman or extremely extremely blessed and most moms won’t want to talk to you-just putting that out there). The best thing you can do is talk about it! Talk about it with good friends, family, a blogging community you like or your spouse because you will realize you are not alone.

Don’t compare yourself to others in a negative way. If looking at a social media picture of another mom who “has it all right” makes you irritated, get off the phone or computer. This is your life. Other peoples lives and where they are at does not apply. Social media is toxic in that sense. I feel so frustrated when I look on social sites and see women comment “I want to be you”. NO! You be YOU. Sure, you can strive for someone abs or legs or bootay, but that is only healthy if you do it in a way that gets you motivated to be the best version of yourself, not down on yourself for not looking like someone else (who by the way uses filters and photoshop to look that great).

Really? No, Really?

My favorite LOL moment after I had my fourth baby was when I saw a fitness Instagram account with a woman who was breastfeeding in a full on grammy-esque gown, makeup on point, hair perfect but clearly placed in front of a fan to create that “windy” look, and a perfect tan. I scrolled down a bit and saw people comment “you look so beautiful”, and “#goals”, and I thought “seriously?”

If this is what I am going up against, I have a big job to do here. We need to get back to reality and empower our girls to be who they are and to not fall into the trap of needing to be perfect (whatever that is). WE have a bit job to do as moms, and it starts with us.

WellFitMommy

This blog is for anyone who has struggled with similar issues as myself. Whether that be from losing a loved one, suffering from anxiety, miscarriage, autoimmune issues, or being a working mom. The sweet thing is, as a blogger you don’t have to stay in one niche. I have a ton of life experience that has made me who I am today and will gladly share in hopes of helping others! A mission I have in the back of my brain at all times is to find a cure to ALS (in my free time) so hopefully we can all help each other with that.

This blog is also going to be a lot about fitness and nutrition. I have been a fitness professional for almost half my life. It is engrained in every fiber of my body. Okay, that may be a little dramatic. But seriously. Nutrition is also at the forefront of my knowledge base. My Bachelors degree encompassed some nutrition (mostly fitness) but the real learning came after college.

I have read hundreds (literally) of books on nutrition, listened to podcasts, taken continuing education courses, and applied all the content to my eating style, adjusting as I find what works and what doesn’t.

Autoimmune Disease

What really escalated my background in nutrition is when I began to have autoimmune issues after my second pregnancy. Here is where my functional medicine education has flourished, and it has truly saved my quality of life. So much that I am now working on a Masters in Functional Medicine. It is intense, but heavily science based, which is what we need in today’s world of “the diet, that diet”.

If you suffer from autoimmune issues, or weird symptoms you do not have an answer for, there are answers. Functional Medicine practices can put autoimmune conditions in remission or greatly reduce symptoms. Some of the conditions I am referring to include: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, MS, Graves Disease, Celiac Disease, Hashimotos, Fibromyalgia, Meniere’s Disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Raynaud’s phenomenon, Scleroderma, Sjogren’s syndrome, and many many others.

If you have any of these conditions I suggest you start looking into autoimmune protocols and functional medicine now. You can turn your life around and feel great again just by nourishing your body with the appropriate foods and lifestyle choices. I will also do my best to bring you relevant content from what I learn in my program and life experience.

The Blog

I purchased my domain name over 5 years ago already. I had every intention of documenting my fitness and nutrition habits during my second pregnancy because people asked me about it all the time. However, I had recently lost my mom (stress) and I had Placenta Previa with that pregnancy so I was unable to workout at all. I planned on getting everything organized and on the blog for my third “happy surprise” pregnancy, but we were building a house at that time, and my husband was the builder so he was gone almost every night working on the house. I planned to update my blog with my fourth pregnancy again, but with working full time, taking care of three kids, building another home (yes we do this a lot), and having my husband gone all the time, and going to school, I did not have the time.

BUT here I am now, and I have to say I am touched that you have taken the time to read this. I truly appreciate your support, and I hope this blog helps you.

Please feel free to share it with someone you know who could use some mommy tips as well. Every mom deserves to look and feel her very best, always!
